KatharsisData Visualization, Sculpture2023
Katharsis is a visual representation to our exploration of PDA in Singapore’s romantic spots. Each tier reflects Singapore’s most romantic encalves: Chijmes, Marina Bay, and Orchard Road. Each tier of our creation embodies the emotional resonance we
experienced in these locales during our data collection journey.

Winnie and Elysia's interpretation of Orchard Road and Marina Bay is deliberately disheveled, mirroring the frenetic energy of these urban spaces and the nuanced interplay of emotions in couples. In contrast, my portrayal of Chijmes exudes a tranquil elegance inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, echoing the serene backdrop of nature that enveloped us during our research.

Each bead signifies a single data point, with 135 pink or white beads representing instances of little to no PDA.

The colors of the beads in not only denote the intensity of PDA observed but also symbolize the discomfort often associated with such displays in Asian cultures, as reflected in the intentionally chaotic design. The intricate wire work atop the piece, is reminiscent of the crown of thorns worn by Jesus during his crucifixion intertwines our artwork with themes of religious influence found in purity jewelry. Through Katharsis, we aim to present data in an artistic manner that invites viewers to visualize and reflect on these findings.
